And then he told them, “Go into all the world and preach the Good News to everyone. Anyone who believes and is baptized will be saved. But anyone who refuses to believe will be condemned. These miraculous signs will accompany those who believe: They will cast out demons in my name, and they will speak in new languages. They will be able to handle snakes with safety, and if they drink anything poisonous, it won’t hurt them. They will be able to place their hands on the sick, and they will be healed.”
Mark 16:15-18
We call this passage the “Great Commission” because there is greatness in it! Jesus expects His disciples and followers to be people of action and power! He spoke of miraculous signs, casting out demons, new languages, physical protection and healing the sick! That is supernatural, God-given power!
Now, I don’t believe we ought to purposefully put ourselves in harm’s way, and we’ll examine that subject more closely tomorrow, but we ought to see active supernatural power in our lives!
Where has this power gone? Acts 1:8 says, “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you . . .” When you receive the Holy Spirit, you receive power. Start demonstrating the power of God! Wake up and declare, “I’m born again by the blood of Christ. I’ve been baptized in the Holy Spirit. I have the power of God in my life!”
God wants His greatness demonstrated throughout the earth. Only through the power of our Almighty God will you see demons flee, sicknesses healed, and souls saved. Follow the leading of the Holy Spirit. He will guide you into all that He has for you!
God wants you to stand in the gap for the lost. He is looking for those who will go to them and compel them to come in. He isn’t looking for you to wait for them to come into the church. It is time to take His miracle-working power to the sick and oppressed.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, more than ever before, people are looking for what is real and what is true. You are that truth. Fill me with Your power and with holy faith to bring Your gospel to those around me with full power. Paul recognized that clever words would not save people, and, like him, I want to share the message of Christ, crucified and resurrected in full life-giving power. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
